On this week's episode, we discuss the 1994 album by Johnny Cash's American Recordings" The result of the odd couple collaboration between legendary rap and hard rock producer Rick Rubin and Cash, the album is a powerful collection of songs on the subject of sin and redemption. The first in a series of collaborations between the two, this album in particular, helped reinvigorate Cash's career. It introduced him to a new group of younger listeners and reminded others of his importance to American music.

It's a sparse album, just Cash and his guitar, and serves to showcase his voice and songwriting talents. It's Cash at his most vulnerable, standing in stark contrast to the mythology of "the Man in Black".
