Album War: David Bowie Edition

Hunky Dory VS. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

It’s our first “Album War!” What is an Album War? Well, we are glad you asked.

Our crack staff here at This Is Vinyl Tap thought it might be interesting from time to time to take two albums that are related in some way (made by the same artist, made by individuals from the same band, etc.) and pit them against each other in some sort of music nerd battle royal. The hope is to take our normal conversations in a bit of a different direction - plus we get to talk about two albums instead of just one!

For our inaugural Album War, we picked two back-to-back albums from the early 1970s by David Bowie: Hunky Dory and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Both are considered classics, and the debate about which is Bowie’s crowning achievement is as old as glam rock itself.

Who will emerge the victor? You'll have to listen to find out.
