The Police - Outlandos d’Amour
Who is (or what is) Sally? What's with the blonde hair? Who's brother went on to found IRS records? Found out on this this episode as we tackle the debut LP by the Police, Outlandos d’Amour.
This is extremely talented trio tried desperately to minimize its chops better embrace the DIY aesthetic of the punk movement. But with a bassist with a jazz background, a guitarist who briefly played with the Soft Machine, and a drummer who played in a progressive rock band; they couldn’t quite pull it off. However what they did create is something utterly unique; something that lands somewhere between punk and new wave, all propelled by a reggae rhythm. The music is boisterous, complex, and fun as hell. Come along for the ride as we discuss the origins of a band that would end up becoming one of the biggest bands of the 80s.
