Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Listen to full episode:

On this episode, we discuss Pink Floyd's 1975 release, Wish You Were Here. This LP was the follow up to their record-selling 1973 classic, Dark Side of the Moon, and part homage to the group's founding member, main songwriter, singer, and guitarist, Syd Barrett; part chronicle of the band's dissolution with the fame and success they had achieved after Dark Side of the Moon, and a general reflection of absence and loss.

While it was not an easy album to record, it contains one of Pink Floyd’s most enduring compositions in the title track. It is the last album where all four band members make substantial contributions and as a result, it is no surprise that it is a favorite among the band members and fans alike.

THINGS WE DISCUSSED ON THIS EPISODE

Listen to “Wine Glasses” from the Household Objects project. While Household Objects was ultimately abandoned, this track was used to provide the foundational mood for “Shine on Crazy Diamond.”

Watch the official video for the Syd Barret era Pink Floyd gem “Arnold Lane.”

Absent for several years, Syd Barret appeared at Abbey Road Studios during the recording of Wish You Were Here, an album that he directly inspired.

Syd showed no recognition that the music being made (particularly “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”) had any relation to him.
